Saturday, May 10, 1952 The 1st Provincial Assemblyman Elections
Immediately following the 1st City·Town·Village Councilor Election on April 25, 1952, the 1st Provincial Assemblyman Elections were held on May 10 in the same year. This election was based on the Local Government Act, which was enacted in 1949 and amended in 1951. Certain regions under martial law including Seoul, Gyeonggi-do (Province) and Gangwon-do (Province) were not able to hold elections. The medium constituency system was adopted for the election where multiple-elects were elected in one constituency and there were no restrictions on campaign.
Many of the winners came from the ruling Liberal Party while only a small number were elected from the opposition camp. The Liberal Party won 147 out of a total of 306 seats, while the Korean National Association took 32, the Korean Youth Corps 34 and non-partisan candidates 85 seats.
